Shane (my fiancé, how weird is that word by the way?!), has finally fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning his very own boat. Remi and I, being so excited for him, threw our shades on and packed up the cooler. For the first time all together, we headed for Boyd Lake to test it out. One fish, one happy puppy, and a couple sunburns later, we give it our approval. Except I think I'll be switching that fishing pole up for a pair of water skis ;) And for Remi, well we'll just keep feeding the trail mix onboard. Hello spring, and ahoy to many lake days ahead!

How Remi and I spend most of our Saturdays: 1. Wake up with the sun (an exaggeration but on a Saturday it may as well be)

2. Try to avoid eye contact so he thinks I'm still asleep. Of course, he already knows.

3. He cries for me to get up, I cry for him to leave me alone. He always wins.

4. We walk or run our daily route, stopping to smell every single tree and greet every possible new friend.

5. Finally, coffee and cuddling.

It can be so easy to identify who we are by our profession. I was recently asked how I would describe myself to someone I didn't know, and of course, the first thing that came to mind was that I am a Fort Collins photographer. I'm a professional photographer who pours her heart and soul into everything photography day in and day out. I eat, sleep, and breath my job. However, among being  a Fort Collins newborn photographer, baby, children's and family photographer, there is much more to know about me.

I am a lover. I'm a joker. I'm a worrier. I was born and raised in a small Wyoming town, where everyone knows everyone. I am the oldest of four, and absolutely love it. I grew up thinking cheesecake was a cake of actual cheese. I thought all sushi consisted of fish eggs. Both are now on the list of my favorite foods, amongst all pasta and Mexican food. I'm a freak when it comes to germs. My favorite color is white. I thought I would grow up to be an art teacher. I'm shy until I get to know you, then you will be my best friend at heart. I choose summer over winter. I love coffee, but don't forget the creamer. Take me to the lake, and I'll be the happiest. My favorite song will forever be 'Slide' by the Goo Goo Dolls. I enjoy reading a good book. I struggle when it comes to sharing my feelings. I'm a perfectionist. I'm a minimalist. I'm that crazy dog lady, overly obsessed with my golden retriever, Remi. I'm a runner. I think a good laugh can cure just about anything. I love the sun. I adore my fiancé, my high school sweet heart. We will be married on the 6th of September of 2015 in Estes Park, Colorado. I dream of being a mother someday. I enjoy going to the movies, but rarely ever get popcorn. I'm a big fan of the CBS hit, Survivor (I don't miss an episode). I have a family who loves and supports me no matter what. I'm horrible at anything to do with numbers. I believe that everything happens for a reason. I am a lover of God. I hope to see the world, but will forever live in Colorado. I hope to appreciate everyday. I believe I am the luckiest.

inspired photography | miranda l. sober photography

I was recently asked, "what inspires you as a photographer". The question is simple. Yet, it's answer is full. You see, the word 'inspire' is defined as 'filling (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something, to create a feeling in a person'. When I look at that definition, I am overwhelmed with an overflow of magical words I think I should say. Words that sound nice or pretty, smart or profound. Words to 'create a feeling in you'.  However, I have to admit, I'm not very good with words, especially large ones that are difficult to pronounce ;) Instead, I'll say that as a photographer, I am inspired by simplicity. Simple, clear, honest. Photography that is true, raw, real. I am inspired by what is. The details, big or small. One focus within an entire image that allows just that, for me to feel. For my mind to wander.

I am a lover of natural light photography. The sun is my defender. My inspiration. I find myself daily, just watching the light. How brightens the world and dances upon skin. We take this for granted every morning we wake up, forgetting how beautiful it is, and how lucky we are to live within it's rays.

I am inspired through you. Your story is unlike anyone else's. You are you, and no one else compares. Your emotion, your every feature, who you are inspires me. Every client becomes a friend within my heart. I want to know you, and share all about you, all within a photograph.

in front of the camera | miranda l. sober photography

As a Fort Collins photographer, my job is to photograph other individuals. From newborn sessions to family portrait sessions, big and small, I'm always the one behind the camera. It's been recently however that I've  realized the importance of also being in front of the camera. A cold morning like this, not too long ago, my mom and I were chatting over a hot cup of coffee. Although I can't remember what brought up the topic, it was a conversation I will never forget.

As some of you may know, five years ago my family and I experienced the loss of a loved one. My younger brother, only seventeen had  so much life ahead of him, yet it was cut much too short. Levi had a smile unlike any other, and although he was shy, when he spoke he had such an impact on everyone around him. As the oldest of four, I remember my mom living behind the camera, always photographing us kids. Through disposable cameras, to Polaroid, to the coming of the Digital Camera, we have albums upon albums of photos. Some photos are torn at the edges, some have little love notes and the date with her script on the back, while others are faded in color. Today, those albums are like gold, each and every photo.

What started as a joyful conversation, laughing at memories behind those photos, quickly became quiet. Tears came to my mom's face as she said, "I only wish there were more photos with me in them, more photos of me with each of you." I then too, was holding back the tears.

I wish I could go back in time. I wish I could photograph my mom, taking photos of all of us. Photograph her reading us our favorite book, Love You Forever by Robert N. Munsch. Take photos of her dressing my sisters and I up for our big dance recitals, or Levi for his karate classes. I wish I could take photos of all six of us dancing in our living room making up dance moves our favorite songs. I wish. But, like this photo below, having even just a few of all of us couldn't be more special.

Time is so short, and life is so fragile. While we may not like our photos taken now, what will they mean to us in the future? To our loved ones, to our children? I challenge you to get inside the photo with those that you love. One day, they will be the biggest treasure of all.

52 photo project | miranda l. sober photography

I've joined Click It Up A Notch, an inspiring blog forum for photographers, in this year's Project 52. Every week for the year of 2015, I will be posing a photo to the blog to share. Throughout my photography journey,  I have found that the only way to expand my talent and creativity is to take more and more photos. Not only does it help with the technical side of images, but the more photos I take, the more I become inspired by the things around me. I've found myself noticing every ray of light coming through my window in the morning. I see the shadows that lie upon your face. I have learned to see the world in ever detail, wishing to capture more and more. With this 52 photo project, I hope to grow as a photographer and as an individual. I look forward to January of 2016, when I can look back to every week of the past year in photos. How exciting that will be! Wish me luck, I am going to need it!
